Scott Weaver is an artist with a great love for his hometown of San Francisco, California, where his family has lived for three generations. In 1968 when Scott was 8 years old he began building strange sculptures of toothpicks that would range from 2 to 4 feet in height. After years of different projects and sculptures in 1974 Weaver started a new sculpture that would pay homage to his city. It began with the Golden Gate Bridge, and over the course of 35 years, ended with over 100,000 toothpicks, 4 interactive ping pong balls running through it, and a complete and absolutely astonishing depiction of the entire city of San Francisco. The installation is entitled “Rolling Through The Bay” and only consists of Elmers glue a giant collection of different branded toothpicks. It stands over 7 feet tall and is over 3 feet wide with features of cable cars, China Town, Alcatraz, whales, windmills, and everything in between. An absolutely amazing and incredible piece of artwork, “Rolling Through The Bay” is currently on display at the Exploratorium Museum in San Francisco. -Jay Wolman
