Florida Film Festival Preview

April 8th marks the beginning of the 20th annual Florida Film Festival in Orlando
Florida and from press events held by the Enzian, as well as information released
on the Festivals web page, this year is teeming with what the event staff has
dubbed “Fresh Squeezed Indies.”

Spread between three venues this year (The Enzian, Regal Winter Park, and special
event showings at Garden Theater in Winter Garden), the Festival central themes
include Florida, Film and an appreciation of the Floridian Cuisine. Along with the
plethora of films gracing the screen of this years festival is an array of events and
food-centered celebrations. A full list of events can be viewed by clicking the link
below, but a few of the most notable include the Opening Night Film and Party,
Swamp Cabbage Culture, Sweet Tea, and Pie: the Florida food discussion and tasting,
and Florida Feasting.

Now for the good stuff, although this years Festival has a lot of focus on the food
community, it is still essentially a Film Festival, and the screenings included in this
years event are some of the most exciting to date. This year’s festival brings 164
films, 21 of which are world premiers. While all the films are worth checking out,
which you can do by clicking on the link provided, a few note worthy entries include
Super, starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, Meek’s Cutoff, which is a western
offering from the director of Old Boy, Kinyarwanda, which won an award at this
years Sundance Film Festival, and closing the entire festival, Hesher, a dark feature
starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman.

2011 Florida Film Festival is a promising event for the film buffs, and worth
checking out of you’re looking for something not playing at your local multiplex.
