Bad Teacher

Bad Teacher has to be scored by one very obvious, and for many critics, deal-breaking point: this is your run-of-the-mill summer blockbuster. It’s pretty entertaining, but the plot is centered on Diaz’s role as a gold-digging bombshell who happens to be holding a teaching job until she marries into wealth. Diaz ends up being cut off by her fiance’s clingy mother; a scene that has been done many times over. In efforts to get breast implants, Diaz takes shot at her old career. She ends up fighting over a potentially wealthy teacher, Mr. Delacorte ( Justin Timberlake) with a caricature of the perfect teacher, Mrs. Squirrel (Lucy Punch). It might be your only chance to see a teacher behaving this badly.
Those poor, poor children.
In all earnestness, the film has its moments. The viewer witnesses Diaz doing everything from smoking a little bud in the faculty parking lot to sabotaging a competitive colleague’s romance with poisoned apples. It also has an eclectic cast. Lucy Punch does a neurotically fantastic job of portraying the quirky rival. Justin Segel (who plays the gym teacher) and Phyllis Smith (from the hit series The Office) add their own unique blend of humor.
Compared to Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher isn’t the critic’s darling or even the audiences’ this summer. But it still has some hilarious scenes and the humor is so gritty/wrong that you can’t help but laugh.
