I must begin this review with a disclaimer. It is quite hard for someone of my age to be objective about reviewing the final installment in the Harry Potter film series. It is not a stretch or hyperbole to say that Harry Potter was the greatest literary influence of the new millennium, Eat That Twilight! It is hard to separate one’s feelings to properly review an individual film, so that’s not the way I treated it. The Harry Potter films act best when treated as a continuous stream of stories in a full collection, rather than 8 parts creating a whole. That being said, Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is a fitting, solid, and appropriate goodbye to one of the greatest film franchises in cinema history.
Part 1 dealt with only the emotional torment of the main trio which enables Part 2 to function as an action movie that never lets up enough for the audience to catch their wits. However, Harry Potter has never truly been about being the greatest spectacle on the big screen, although you would not realize it. Harry Potter‘s main goal is to get the audience to feel the same feelings and excitement they had when reading the books, or watching the early films almost a decade ago; to which the film succeeds greatly as it has you in the palms of its hands from John Williams now-iconic opening score. The fact this movie has had the greatest opening weekend of any film is impressive, the fact that it is a story that everyone already knows heading into the theatre is even more impressive. There are too many reasons to see this film, whether you’re a fan, or interested in the action, it’s undeniable that The Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is the end of a great achievement of entertaining magic.
