Dexters

Located a few blocks from Lake Eola, Dexter’s is in the heart of Thornton Park in Downtown Orlando (there are also two other convenient locations in Winter Park and Lake Mary). With a diverse menu and a laid-back atmosphere, Dexter’s is the epitome of what casual dining should be in a city like Orlando: fun, accessible, and delicious.

Dexter’s offers two seating options: inside for the more traditional diner, and the first-come-first-served outside dinning option, which is comfortable and pet friendly for those hoping to grab a bite while on a stroll with a pet. The atmosphere is friendly; service was quick and not invasive. The staff checked back without interrupting the meal and stayed attentive even when it got a bit busy during high-traffic brunch hours.

With a fully-equipped bar and reasonably priced menu, Dexter’s has something for everyone, whether it’s as simple as a beer (domestic – 3.25 imports – 4.25 and up), or a unique menu item like the duck sandwich. The Pressed Duck was recommended by the server and did not disappoint. Consisting of layers of roasted and pulled duck, hot melted brie, and grilled onions on a pressed French hoagie, the sandwich was flavorful and filling, but did not sit heavy after leaving the restaurant. Vegetarian options are also available at Dexter’s – the Grilled Veggie Sandwich includes seasonal veggies grilled and layered with fresh pesto, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sprouts, and choice of cheese. Sides were not included, but recommended were the sweet potatoes fries, which were fresh cut, seasoned with sea salt, and totally delectable.

Dexter’s is a great local restaurant with several locations for those who aren’t looking to travel too far for a good meal. It’s also a great alternative to the many chain restaurants that offer semi-similar menus but don’t deliver nearly as well in atmosphere or taste departments.
