It’s easy to see why fast food sub places thrive in the area surrounding UCF, but if you want a real sandwich, and a delicious one at that, go to Roddy’s Deli. Located on East Colonial less than a mile east of Woodbury St., Roddy’s is housed in a small, quiet plaza and stands as the only eatery in the whole nook. Its minimal Americana decor is enlivened by joyous Spanish music that plays throughout the day, and both give the place something none of the corporate Orlando sub restaurants have: character. And it’s not just a sandwich shop – Roddy’s also offers notary, faxing, copy, money transfer, bill pay and free Wi-Fi. Run by owners Roddy and Rosa, Roddy’s Deli is a well kept food secret that needs to be shared.
From breakfast all day to subs with the freshest meats to home-made empanadas to fruit smoothies, Roddy’s does it all. The breakfast menu includes eggs with a variety of sides, pancakes, and breakfast sandwiches. And the greatest part about these breakfast meals? All of them are under $4. Two notables are the “Sunshine Eggs,” three eggs cooked any style with a side of toast, real sausage and bacon for only $2.99, and breakfast bagel sandwich which is served with eggs, cheese and bacon for only $2.79.
The best thing about Roddy’s Deli, however, are the large and flavorful sandwiches and wraps. There are over 20 sandwiches to choose from, all under $6 and all made on delicious crunchy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside bread. Roddy’s sandwich menu includes classics, such as their succulent turkey club, under the name “Club Adolfo”; their cheesy chicken and steak Phillies; their traditional and tasty “Italian”; their perfectly classic “Lenny’s Cuban”; and their yummy “Chicken Caesar Wrap”; but their most remarkable hoagies are their original creations. For example, there’s the “Cutters Delight,” a sandwich that can also be ordered as a salad and is made with high quality angus roast beef, turkey, crispy bacon, provolone, sauteed mushrooms and onions with a creamy homemade Russian dressing. There’s also the “Orlando’s Finest,” which consists of moist corned beef, salty pastrami, Swiss cheese, pickles, tomato and a tangy ranch spread. Not to mention the “Triple Meat Roller Coaster,” made up of chopped and seasoned pork, turkey, ham, and is topped with onions and shoe-string potatoes and yet another homemade sauce, Roddy’s “mayo-ketchup.” And to top it off, each sandwich is served with a pickle slice and a heaping helping of a creamy, in-house made potato salad that is just as celebrated by current customers as the sandwiches themselves.
Fast food lovers and impatient diners: beware. Though you can get everything to-go, because of this eatery’s dedication to cooking and building their sandwiches after they are ordered, it can take a few minutes to get your sandwich depending on what is in it. But don’t let that deter you; the short wait is well worth it.So give this sandwich shop the attention and support it deserves and visit Roddy’s Deli located at 13781 E Colonial Dr Orlando, FL 32826
