Milwaukee Mayor Declares “Bon Iver Day”

New York Magazine reported that Milwaukee’s mayor officially decreed July 22 as Bon Iver Day. The band’s leading man, Justin Vernon, hails from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and a lot of his songs clearly acknowledge his Wisconsin heritage (“Brackett, WI” and the more tongue-in-cheek “Minnesota, WI” for example). Nonetheless, Mayor Tom Barrett felt it appropriate to name today “Bon Iver Day” in celebration of the band kicking off their tour tonight at Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, Wis.

Don’t have plans this Friday? Celebrate by listening to Bon Iver’s new self-titled album.

Or just lock yourself in a cabin for a few months and pray for a blizzard.

Happy Bon Iver Day!
