The TV production company, FX, has recently agreed to renew three of their shows for new seasons: Wilfred, Louie, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Television has already come a long way in the first decade of the 21st century. As the writing of TV shows continues to grow and become more focused on stories, we viewers get to enjoy the quirky and stimulating experiences of Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Wire, etc., etc.
One of the shows that FX announced for a new season, Wilfred, is actually a remake of an Australian comedic show by the same name. But when it comes to this odd comedy–whose feature character is a grown man dressed up as a dog who actually is a dog–a lot of people are wondering, will Americans get the joke?
It’s a rather similar concept to Ricky Gervais’ British comedy, The Office. Not much of the American television viewership had experienced the unorthodox style of Gervais’ “mockumentary” television show, but as evidenced by the upcoming eighth season, that comedy took off running.
FX reported that Wilfred had an average of 5 million viewers per week in its first season, and they seem confident enough that it will continue to grow in popularity, seeing as how they approved it for a second one.
Other shows that were renewed for a brand new season were Louie, starring the Emmy-nominated Louis C.K., and the ever-popular giant of a comedy, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Go figure that one.
