With Stones Throw being one of the most supported and beloved record labels always signing artists of different genres and calibers, new artist Jonti has found a happy home. The South African born, Australian raised multi instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist recently signed a deal with Peanut Butter Wolf after some under the radar work with Sean Lennon, Santigold, and Mark Ronson. Wolf heard some work from the young musician and was immediately impressed.
In a recent interview regarding Jonti joining his roster PBW said, “His music is so catchy, but the arrangements blew me away. I couldn’t figure out how the hell he did what he did. That he did it all on at such an early age kinda scared me. I knew right away I needed to add him to the roster.”
Jonti’s first impression on Wolf came with a track which has now become his first major single with the label, “Firework Spraying Moon” is out now on Stones Throw for digital download and a vinyl is available as well. The song is super simple yet abstract and leaves listeners with an open curiosity of it’s lyrical content. If there is one complaint about the song, it’s way too short and leaves you wanting so much more. As for the music video paired to accompany the song, psychedelic, ambient, and intriguing say the least.
The talented new artist also has a wonderful and light podcast available for free through the Stones Throw podcasts on iTunes right now. The podcast is made up of material Joni recorded before working on his debut. In describing the podcast he says “Over the next 11 tracks, you’ll hear my journey of stretching out the beat maker thing and learning to paint more vivid pictures, this shows the role and beautiful friendship I’ve had with music since I left South Africa.” Joni will be releasing his debut later this year. This is definitely an artist with high hopes of great material.
