Sigur Ros' double live album and film: Inni

Remember that confusing preview video Icelandic band, Sigur Ros, released last week, “Inni”? It left the online community swirling in a sea of questions and excitement. But the Sigur Ros website has laid rumors to rest.

Inni is a new release from Sigur Ros containing a double live album and a 75-minute film. Their website says that the film is of “Sigur Ros’ last show before their well-documented ‘indefinite hiatus’ at the end of 2008.” The last show took place at London’s Alexandra Palace and it was filmed by Director Vincent Morisset who filmed Arcade Fire’s Miroir Noir.

This will be the band’s second live film, following 2007′s Heima. And if Heima was any indication to the band’s affinity for artistry and aesthetic pleasantries, Inni will probably be much more of an artistic endeavor than your typical “live album fanfare.” Morisset shot the footage of the performance in London digitally and then re-shot it on 16mm, which was then re-filmed again through various found objects. The website says this method was meant to give the film a feeling of the past, and it’s interspersed with archival footage of the band all the way back to 1998.

Birgir Jon Birgisson recorded Sigur Ros’ performance for the double live album, which clocks in at one hour and 45 minutes. The film will be debuting at the Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2011.
