Tom Waits’ mysterious Tweet

Tom Waits Tweeted something strange today. The blues-y, growling, singer-songwriter, composer and actor said in a Tweet, “There have been rumblings and rumors. New music, you say? Come to TomWaits.com on 8/23, and Mr. Waits himself will set the record straight.”

It’d be tempting to say that this Tweet is as vague and cryptic as the enigmatic Inni video from Sigur Ros last week, which left people buzzing with questions, but a press release from TomWaits.com announced this past February that he started working on a new album. So I guess the only question we really have is, is 8/23 going to be a new song? Or are we getting the full brand new album since 2009′s Glitter Doom Live? The humorous singer-songwriter has had an especially momentous year as he was also accepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Neil Young on March 14, 2011.

“They say I have no hits and that I’m difficult to work with . . . like it’s a bad thing,” Waits said during his induction.

His gruff voice probably isn’t what most contemporary music listeners are used to, but that’s what has always made his blues-induced rock n’ roll act so enticing in the past.
