As Associate Press reports, the 80s an 90s pop star, Whitney Houston, has died at the age of 48.

The cause of the soulful singer’s death is unknown, however she was heavily involved with substance abuse, which sunk her musical career in the first place. The LA Times is claiming Houston’s body was found in the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Whitney Houston rose to stardom after her ’87 release Whitney debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, which became the first record by a female singer to achieve this status. Her latest record came out in 2009 – called I Look To You. Over her career, she won six Grammy awards and was also an Emmy Award-winning actress.

One of her most memorable on-sreen appearances was her character in The Preacher’s Wife – and more specifically the scene where she shows off her pipes (Lionel Richie on piano) in front of Denzel Washington in a night lounge.
